Michael Graves and his two firms Michael Graves & Associates and Michael Graves Design Group have received over 200 awards for design excellence in architecture, planning, interior design, product design and graphic design. Graves is the recipient of the 2001 Gold Medal of the American Institute of Architects, the highest award that it bestows upon individual architects. He also received the 1999 National Medal of Arts from President Bill Clinton. In 2010, he received the prestigious Topaz Medallion, a joint award of the AIA and the American Collegiate Schools of Architecture for his illustrious 39-year teaching career at Princeton University. MGA has received 11 National AIA Honor Awards as well as over 65 awards from AIA state chapters. MGDG has won numerous awards for product design from the Chicago Athenaeum, and various industrial design publications and societies including IDSA.
