Karen Nichols to Present Closing Keynote at AIA NJ Convention

09.25.15

Karen  Nichols, AIA will give the Closing Keynote at the 2015 AIA NJ Convention and provide a retrospective of Michael Graves work and contributions to the field of architecture.

Her session, entitled “The Times They Are A Changin’: Past as Prologue in the Work of Michael Graves”, delves into the context of the times he lived in and how the events of various decades influenced his point of view. She will discuss how he, in turn,  influenced the world of architecture, design and education. Punctuated with little known facts and humorous anecdotes as well as momentous achievements, Ms. Nichols will share his story as it unfolded alongside contemporaneous and consequential events. The Linear City, Five Architects, Post Modernism, the democratization of design through consumer products, and thought leadership in healthcare design are but a few of the milestones along the way.

The event, hosted by AIA NJ  will be held at the Hanover Marriott in Whippany from October 23 – 24, 2015.

The two day event will also include keynote addresses by Shirley Blumberg of KPMB Architects based in Canada, Mike Michalowicz, author of the Pumpkin Plan and a discussion with Deans from leading Architecture Schools around the country. A Friday-only Trade Show will unveil the latest products and technology in the field.

Three tours have been scheduled:

  • Hebrew Academy of Morris County , now known as Gottesman RTW Academy.
  • World Headquarters of Wyndham Worldwide,
  • Craftsman Farms – Tour the Log House at Craftsman Farms, Gustav Stickley’s rustic country estate.
