The Thinking Creatively Conference at the Michael Graves College at Kean University in Union, New Jersey is a two-day event full of engaging presentations, networking opportunities between students and professionals, and a meaningful one-of-a-kind experience. Friday, April 6th, marks the 15th Anniversary of the Thinking Creatively Conference, a full day of inspirational talks from industry professionals.

Megan Luce, Phylicia Flynn and Samantha Teyhen of Michael Graves Architecture & Design make up the three-person panel discussion on all things Interior Design. The panel, moderated by Sal Forgione, Manager of Marketing & Business Development and adjunct faculty at the University, includes an hour of discussion and industry insights surrounding the practice and includes audience Q&A. From humble beginnings to a multi-billion-dollar industry and growing, the panel will share personal experiences relating to the field, inspiring stories that pull from current trends and touch on their own sources of inspiration. The all-MGA&D panel will tap into what it’s like working in a vastly diverse multidisciplinary design firm such as MGA&D.

Panelist Bios:

Megan Luce, Senior Director of Interior Design

Megan Luce, Senior Director of Interior Design

Joining Michael Graves Architecture & Design in 2007, Megan brings over 13 years of experience in the design of office spaces, hotels, restaurants and residences and has worked on several of the firm’s signature hospitality projects, including the Nile Corniche and Sentosa World Resorts in Singapore.

Megan designs with the goal of integrating interiors into architecture to create seamless and unique solutions. Recognizing the importance of sustainable design, Megan believes that carrying the vision of the client through all the stages of design is critical and that a successful design solution is defined by the integration of sustainable concepts with cost effective and beautiful design solutions. Megan works closely with associate architects and consultants located overseas throughout the design and construction process.

Phylicia Flynn, Intermediate Designer

Phylicia Flynn, Intermediate Designer

Joining Michael Graves Architecture & Design in 2015, Phylicia Flynn has worked with the team responsible for delivering several high-profile projects for the firm’s interior design practice. Notable project experience includes the custom design of wall coverings and the coordination of fixtures and finishes for the luxurious six-star St. Regis Hotel in Cairo, Egypt and the interior renovations, furniture and finishes specifications, and construction documentation of the Miramar Sheraton Resort in El Gouna. Most recently, Phylicia coordinated construction documentation of Savio Hall and the Sacred Heart Chapel at Don Bosco Preparatory in Ramsey, New Jersey. Phylicia, a graduate of the New York School of Interior Design and Certified Interior Designer, resides in Asbury Park, New Jersey and is an avid baker!

 

Samantha Teyhen, Intermediate Designer

Samantha Teyhen, Intermediate Designer

With a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design from the New York School of Interior Design and currently pursuing a Master’s in Design Management from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), Samantha brings a critical approach to interior design, specifications and creative uses of materials and finishes. Samantha has worked on projects that range from higher-education, to hospitality and the workplace. Currently, Samantha is working closely on the interior design of a large workplace transformation project for a national financial services firm. Samantha resides in downtown Princeton and when she is not in the office can be found playing tennis in her downtime.

Sal Forgione, Manager of Marketing & Business Development

Sal Forgione, Manager of Marketing & Business Development

Sal joined MGA&D in 2012. For Sal, creativity is a way of life. As Manager of Marketing & Business Development with the firm, he illustrates key institutional concepts through the use of dynamic language in an expressive style to convey design ideas for project pursuits across the firm’s disciplines. With a master’s degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Sal communicates brand messaging with highly engaging presentations, proposals and marketing collateral. Sal has contributed to many of the firm’s signature projects including textile design for CF Stinson and branding/identity for the Michael Graves Design Collection of products and decorative accessories. He has also provided wayfinding and signage design for several of the firm’s healthcare clients. Sal currently holds a teaching appointment at Kean University with the Michael Graves College/Robert Busch School of Design.
