Intercontinental Hotel
Taba Heights, Egypt
MGA&D provided planning, architecture, interior design for the InterContinental Hotel in Taba Heights, Egypt. The InterContinental beach resort hotel located on the Aqaba Bay sea is a 500-room, five-star hotel. The main building on three floors steps down in large terraced forms with surprising views through a crescent-shaped guestroom wing.
One enters the hotel on the upper floor and steps down to the restaurant and then the health club level following the rather steep slope of the land. The guestrooms are made of three large clusters, each expressing its own shape and character.
Construction of the hotel began in 1998 but was interrupted for several years due to an economic downturn in the region. However, construction resumed in 2004 and MGA&D resumed work on the interior design. It was completed in December, 2005, and opened immediately thereafter in early 2006.

Identity
The base of the buildings and accent elements are made of rough stone, a local material present in abundance. The pools surrounded by beach restaurants and bar create the waterfront animation typical of a five-star beach resort hotel.
