A Mix of Uses in a Unified Ensemble

Aventine, a mixed-use development located on an 11-acre site within San Diego’s “Golden Triangle,” is both a business destination and a world-class retreat.  Sitting above a 1,500-car parking garage built into the hill are individual buildings that each house a different use – the 419-room Hyatt Regency La Jolla, a 32,000-SF deluxe fitness spa with an outdoor pool court and sundeck, a 23,000-SF retail building containing upscale restaurants and a 239,000-SF office building. We organized the buildings to take advantage of the southern view and allow sunlight to penetrate the center of the site where outdoor recreational activities take place. While each building has a distinct form, the commonality of the architectural materials, colors and details allows the complex to read as a single ensemble.
