Encouraging Sustainability Through Land Planning

The client wanted a resort for 12,000 people but gave few details. We imagined the rest, letting the land drive the decisions.  The site is an arid 3.5-mile long valley flanked by steep hills and terminating at the ocean in a flat plain. Two golf courses, selectively planted and irrigated by graywater, create a green ribbon that runs the length of the valley.

Working with Topography

The Town Center concentrates density in the flattest site and abuts an expanded coastline where we located beach clubs, cafes, retail and a marina. We placed a variety of guest accommodations in terraced hotels and hill towns overlooking the valley and ocean. Their architectural character reflects the terrain, climate and regional building techniques to create an authentic local guest experience unique to this place.
