The long-standing relationship between Michael Graves and the Baltimore-based furniture manufacturer David Edward started in 2003 with the launch of the Michael Graves Collection of upholstered furniture specifically designed for the contract market. The collection includes lounge seating and coordinating tables that are appropriate for a variety of interior settings. The company fabricated the Finestra and Oculus chairs originally designed by MGA&D, as well as the wood and upholstered Hampton lounge chair which achieved special design success. In 2017, the partnership was refreshed with the addition of the Looper Bench collection.
Viewed in section, the Looper bench is an extrapolation of the keystone, an iconic Michael Graves design element going back to the Fargo-Moorhead Cultural Bridge project. The design team was also inspired by the Möbius strip when designing the Looper bench. Made with a solid maple frame, Looper comes in three sizes: 2 loops, 5 loops, and 7 loops to accommodate 1 person, 2 people and 3 people. After its launch in 2017, the Looper bench made acclaim for the Best of Year finalist from Interior Design magazine.
David Edward also fabricated the Finestra and Oculus chairs originally designed by Michael Graves in 1989, as well as the wood and upholstered Hampton lounge chair which achieved special design success.
