History of The Maritime Silk Route
Supporting family activities that educate and entertain, the Museum draws on Singapore’s history as a port of call on the Maritime Silk Route through the Strait of Malacca connecting Indian and Pacific Oceans. We located the Museum at the waterfront, where it creates a dramatic first impression, especially when lit at night. Its form — reminiscent of the hull of a ship – introduces the theme of the Museum. Next door, a working marina showcases examples of sea-going vessels.
Seagoing and Storytelling
Inside, the exhibits immerse visitors in stories of the Silk Route, renowned seafarers and legendary pirates through 15 thematic galleries, interactive installations and a multi-sensory Typhoon Theatre. Outdoors, the adjacent Showplace Theater at the base of Universal Plaza seats 2,000 people on large stone steps where they view a nightly sound and light show in the water. Seen from across the bay, the show epitomizes the fun and drama of the resort.
