03.30.16
The Nile Corniche/St. Regis

The St. Regis Cairo, set to Open in October 2016, features 292 lavishly furnished rooms, including 63 suites, as well as 99 impeccably serviced guest apartments and 117 St. Regis Tower residences.

The 197,000 square meter mixed-use development is located at the heart of the Corniche, on the east bank of the Nile River in Cairo, Egypt. This new luxury property is organized as two distinct towers above a seven-story podium and below-grade service and parking levels.

The podium contains all hotel and owner-oriented services and public facilities including dining options in unique restaurant environments, a coffee bar and a destination night club – slated to be the most lavish in the city.   The open-air terrace features a shushi bar and offers gorgeous sunset views across the Nile and the adjacent Zamalek Island.

Additionally there is a state-of-the-art health and wellness center, indoor and outdoor pools, terrace complete with private cabanas, and sumptuous spa.

From across the Nile, the St.Regis has a commanding presence.  Construction has topped out and the final elements of the façade are being hoisted into place.

The construction and detailing of the magnificently designed and appointed full-service banquet and event facilities is progressing well; the spaces include the main and junior ballrooms, meeting spaces, and associated support spaces. All of these offerings combine to truly make this the destination development in Cairo. This activity is further supported by the presence of ground level retail space throughout the podium, as well as high-end commercial space for lease in Tower 1. These amenities work in unison to provide the ultimate in 6-star hospitality for vacationers, long-terms guests, and event attendees alike.

The ballroom staircase handrail, made of thousands of custom cast clear glass blocks on bronze supports, will beautifully complement the cascading light fixture, made with over 250,000 individual Swarovski crystals.  Photos of the construction of the space is beginning to convey the real-world translation of the opulence of the concept renderings.

The fifth podium level contains the hotel lobby and reception, a water garden, lounges, food and beverage offerings, a library and a world-class spa. These spaces work in conjunction with one another to provide varied experiences for hotel guests –  allowing them to explore, discover and encounter a variety of sensory experiences intended to be unlike anything else available in all of Egypt.

Porte cochère construction and ceiling detailing is nearing completion.  Custom paving will be illuminated by light reflected from the expanses of gold mosaic tiles adorning the ceiling.  The warm lighting and color palette welcomes arriving guests, preparing them for the entry sequence awaiting them on the 5th floor reception lobby and lounge.

Construction workers detail the elevator lobby, achieving the curvature of the custom fabric-panel clad semi-ellipsoid entry way with a complex, curved structural steel cage that is hung from the adjacent building structure.  Mother of pearl inlaid wood panels clad the remaining ceiling and wall, creating a rich and intricate interplay of materials and details.

Workers are nearing completion of the ornate Arabian motif ceiling details in the interior lobby lounge. Carved details visually connect to the diagonal organization of the ceiling design, which is also echoed in the alternating dark and light diamond pattern of the stone floor. Here again, mother of pearl inlaid wood panels flank the room and offer an accent against the intricate musrabiya panels that will come to define seating areas within the space, once complete.

From the wall covering, to the custom designed furniture, to the closets inspired by the experience of opening an exquisite jewelry box, no element in the guestroom has gone unconsidered; the details beautifully executed. In the bathrooms, hand laid, full-height mosaic murals envelop the tubs, where nature and the local culture continue to be reflected in the motifs and designs.
